  1. My feelings about the Comenius week

This week was absolutely wonderful ! And wonderful, next to what I think and feel, it’s really the minimum. Magnificent, perfect, fantastic, excellent, exceptional… I don’t find a word to define this week. I’m really satisfied with the Comenius project. Making students meet other students is really a good idea, like this. Personally, I don’t need any project to love speaking English or Spanish. They are my favorite subjects.
This week was more than wonderful because my pen friend, a Cypriot girl, was perfect. With her, I could speak about anything we wanted to and the best thing was that we had the same taste as much concerning music as films but also with our manner of thinking and our point of view about people. Now she’s like a sister for me but a special sister because I can confide me in her about everything. But at the beginning, before seeing her, I was a little bit afraid and stressed. I didn’t know what I had to say in the car and at home; moreover, Nicolas (Mathilde’s penfriend) came to my house for a few hours on the first evening and I thought I wouldn’t manage to speak with them but finally, with a dictionary and miming, we were able to speak together and it was so funny to share a moment, me and 2 Cypriots. As we had the same tastes, with Anastasia, we could watch movies, listen to music, speak really a lot and share a perfect week together. Anastasia is someone really nice, considerate, amiable and she told me my family was so good. In my turn, I would like to discover her family! When we had to part, it was horrible! I didn’t want to leave her and the other pen friends but the Cypriots in particular. Since she left France, I have felt so nostalgic and I went to the bedroom where she slept and I thought of her for hours. Now, we stay in contact thanks to Facebook and our mobile phone…

  2. COMENIUS Project

Our class was involved in the COMENIUS project which is a European project about the European identity. All the European countries are concerned and thanks to this project, we could work together. For one week our school welcomed students who came from Portugal, Spain, Germany, Poland and Cyprus and they all stayed with a French family. This was a really good experience, and I loved this week. I couldn’t have a correspondent because I am boarder so I was quite disappointed but I met the German people who were very friendly!
I was so excited to meet the foreigners that I went to Chambery on Tuesday to be with them. The same day, there were just the Cypriots who arrived and they didn’t speak a lot ( maybe they were a little bit shy ). On Wednesday, the school and our class welcomed them by a little speech. After that, Gabrielle and Rahma sang and it was a great success! Then the students who were in European class made presentations about Europe ( I presented “Euroscepticism in France” with Victor). The head teacher M.BRIGLIA made a speech to welcome them again and we ate some croissants with coffee. After the mathematics lesson, I ate with the Spanish people. We showed them the music that we listened to and we asked them if they knew it, it was quite funny. In the afternoon, we met Joshua, a German student who was standing alone in front of the school. We decided to speak with him and we spent a great time. My favourite day was Thursday! I took part in the work with the journalist and the foreigners. In the afternoon we formed groups with the students. I was with Joshua, a Polish girl and Ines a Portuguese girl who spoke very good French. We created the first page of a newspaper, all of us had great ideas and we spoke a lot. We understood well each other, it was a really good experience. Friday was a sad day for me because it was the last time I saw the foreigners. In the afternoon we had a conference with our MEP, it was quite difficult to listen all the time because people asked a question, the translator had to say it in French, the delegate answered in French and the translator had to say it in English again so it was quite tiring ( and I can’t begin to imagine what it was like for the translator! ). But the week was really good, I’ll keep a pleasant memory and I think we are very lucky to have had the chance to take part in this project. Moreover, everybody sounds happy about this week even the teachers who said that we had a good attitude.

    Thank you very much!

  4. The first evening when my pen friend, Olga, arrived we had no time to speak because it was late and we needed to sleep. But the next day, we talked a lot about Poland, her habits and customs... It was really interesting! The meeting with all partners was very good. We discussed a lot, discovered many things, and shared tastes about music or films. I had the chance to participate in the presentation of the journalist and the achievement of the newspapers; It was one of the best moments of the week. When we were in groups to the newspaper, we all had good ideas and we were happy with the final result. I helped my partner to discover French cooking : tartiflette, frog's legs... She was pleased to discover all this and I was glad to show her these things. We went out with some other foreign students and we laughed a lot. In conclusion, it really wasn't a week like the others. Everything was new and exciting, very rewarding and I miss all the correspondents. Olga made me want to do like her, to see what happens elsewhere. I have only one regret …..she wanted to see Paris!

  5. How I felt about the French Comenius week.

Before my partner arrived, I was a little bit stressed, because he was a boy, I didn’t know him very well, I didn’t know what he would be like.
But when Nicolas arrived, we established contact within five minutes. He was very sociable. I discovered a nice, funny and charming boy. I liked him immediately. I thought the week was going to be nice and funny! And I was right. Every day, we ate together with friends for lunch, we spoke a lot, about everything : teenage things, religion, war, politics, music, sports… We did something together every evening : handball, concert, bowling, playing the guitar… So he was going to be a friend, just like my French friends. Of course, I was very sad when he left my home to return to Cyprus. We had to speak in English, and Nicolas helped me to find the right words and I just made so much progress in English during the week. I taught him French words, and he taught to me Greek words. We had a lot of fun!
Concerning the Comenius programme, I think it was a pity that we couldn’t be with foreign people during activities, for example when students from different countries made their different presentations. In spite of that, it was nice. I was lucky to be able to create the newspaper First Page with other students, and it was very interesting. We could share our opinion, and it was very instructive. The video conference with Malika Benarab-Attou was interesting too.
As there were a lot of nationalities, there were a lot of opinions, a lot of ways of life, a lot of languages…
It is a pity that it was really so short…
So it was a very nice and instructive week!

  6. My exchange partner, Anastasio, arrived on Tuesday evening. He brought me a Spanish ham (Serrano) and some chorizo : it was delicious !
On Wednesday, we were introduced to all the foreign partners, we listened to the students’ presentations. After I went to French and Maths lessons. We ate in the high school canteen and they went to Annecy for the afternoon. During the evening after Anastasio came back, we went to my house and we spoke about lots of different subjects during the evening … but in Spanish!
On Thursday morning, I went to the conference with partners about newspapers and in the afternoon I helped the partners to produce their First Pages. In the evening we ate at Mc Donald’s, it was nice!
On Friday, we had class during the morning and the conference in the afternoon. During the evening we went out to Chambery it was great fun!
On Saturday my partner left France and I was so sad …

  7. This week was a great success! I think it was a really good idea ! I met Isabel a Spanish girl who would stay with me during the week. She is very interesting. With her, I could speak English and Spanish too so I progressed. I shared lots of things, and she spoke to me about her life, her hobbies, her family. At my home, my parents liked speaking with her but they don't speak English or Spanish so I translated everything they said. During this week I met lots of people from different cultures. I learnt new things with them. But they didn't stay a long time in France, it's a pity because they left when I was starting to get to know them. Probably, this summer, I would like see Isabel in Spain because it was a great meeting. Isabel was very happy to visit Chambery and Annecy, she liked this programme but she was very cold in France. So it's was a fantastic experience !

  8. During this week in Chambery, I received a Portuguese student and her name is Ines and I got on very well with her. We will see each other again this summer and we still exchange e-mails. I have kept in contact with other nationalities such as Polish and Spanish students. I liked welcoming her in my home because it was fun; she was very sociable and kind. I enjoyed this week. The leaving was sad though.
Producing the first page of a newspaper was very great fun because we were able to talk about the economic problems of each country and we could discuss this in groups, like we did during the conference in Salle Chanéac with the MEP. Contact with these nationalities was very rewarding because sometimes when we didn’t understand and we laughed together.
Although this stay was short, we learnt to know more about each other and we got on so well with them during these five days. We did some activities with them like one night, we went together to McDonald's to get to know each other better. We often spoke late when we came back to school because we have so much in common.
At first, when I was waiting for my partner at the bus station, I was a little bit nervous and excited at the same time, but the anxiety went away as soon as she arrived because we spoke right away.
I think I’ll keep very pleasant memories in my head for a long time because I loved this week with them!

  9. My opinion about the Comenius week

The most enjoyable thing about this week was speaking English with the foreign partners.
This week was very well too when we had to work with people from other countries to create a newspaper article because I had never ever worked with people from a foreign country and I was very glad to see how we could work together while speaking only in English.
I also liked this week much when I made my presentation about our country (so at first I was a little intimidated to speak in front of everybody but after I enjoyed it more and more.
During this week I hosted a Polish girl. At first it was very hard to understood her but only about an hour I got used to her accent!
The video conference with a European deputy Malika Benarab Attou was a little complicated to understand but was interesting all the same.

So, in conclusion this week was very enriching for me and we had meetings which will remain unforgettable. I’d love to live another similar experience.

  10. Comenius report

First, I must say that I found this week really great! We met some very pleasant and interesting people!
On Tuesday, the Cypriot students were in class with us, and it was really funny because in Maths they worked like us, but in Economics they spent their time drawing. At the end of the day my partner arrived and I was really excited to meet her. She was a German girl called Amrei.
On Wednesday, we had the presentations which went really well even if we didn’t see all of them because we had to go to our other lessons.
On Thursday, I attended the presentation of the journalist. It was interesting but a little bit too long because the translator always had to translate into English, but it was essential. On the afternoon, creating the First Page of a newspaper was great! It was an unusual activity. We were proud of our work when it was finished.
On Friday afternoon, the conversation with Malika Benarab-Attou was interesting but a little strange because of the video I think. And then we had free time which was really great! We could speak and laugh with everybody. I forgot to say that the idea of the “Coffee and Croissants” was a good idea, my partner said that too!
Skiing on Saturday was very funny I found! We laughed a lot! It was really funny to see Cypriots and others skiing. It was a great idea to propose that. After skiing, with my partner and my family, we went to Lyon for the Light party (I don’t know if it’s right to say “Fête des Lumières”) and it was a good experience. My partner was really happy to go over there because in her French school text book there is a lot of information about this city. I found this very pleasant because I could be with my family and with my partner. So I spoke French, then English, etc. It was really nice.
And then it was the end, it was sad; especially on Monday when I arrived at school I found it empty. But I had a lot of memories, happy memories of course!

Thank you so much for this project!

  11. Report about the week from 6th until 12th December 2010

First of all, it was the first time that somebody had stayed in my home for one week! This experience was very interesting. In fact, living alone with my mother, I had to learn to get organized.

It was very pleasant to welcome Danae Michaelidou, for my mother but above all for me. What’s more, I think that improved a little my English because my partner taught me new words and I spoke so much with her.
I had a very nice week with her.

In my opinion, Comenius projects like this one are fantastic: it allowed me to get to know people who come from different countries. So I learned a lot of things. And so did our partners! They went back to their home smiling, that’s why I thought that they loved to come to France.

Concerning the activities organized at school, I really enjoyed the presentations and I thought the foreign students like what we presented. Creating the First Page of a newspaper was a really original idea especially because we have never done this kind of work before. And breaks at 10 o’clock every day were fun!

As for me, I enjoyed speaking English almost all the time! It was a great week without any problems.

    Thank you Mr. Watts !

  12. After so much work and enthusiasm put into the work that we had proposed to Comenius Project, at last the moment of truth (7th December) came as we have so long desired.
That morning, the students (Isabel, Jose Manuel y Anastasio) and teachers (Mabel, Beatriz y Juan Enrique) met happily with abig smile on our faces. Geneva (Switzerland) was waiting for us and we were all ready to fly in spite of the air controllers.
Flying as high as our hopes we arrived at our destination, very quickly, after one hour by bus, we arrived in Chambéry (French).
We were very nervous as everything was new and incredibly exciting, we finally met the wonderful families who hosted us during our stay in France.
We have to thank all the attention and kindness the families had with the three of us, in fact, they have been more than hosts for us and we still keep contact with them, and hopefully, we will in the future.
This first day was just a relaxing family day, just to get used to it and show us around.
On Wednesday, we went to school and had to do our presentation, our work on power –point. There, we could meet the other participants of Comenius. They were from Germany, Cyprus, Portugal and Poland as well as the rest of the French partners. We had our first lunch at the the High School and spent the morning doing a lot of funny activities. That morning we made a presentation about our country. This presentation was quite a big success. Then, we went to have lunch with our French correspondents and some friends of them. The food was not very good, but the company was very nice. In the afternoon, we visited "Annecy", a city with a river and a beautiful mountainous landscape. There, we could visit some churches and even an ancient prison. We will not forget the evening in the city, the mountain turned beautifully reddish. The following day, we attended a Spanish lesson in which we laughed a lot. After completing the lessons, we went to attend a lecture about the history of journalism. In our opinion, this lecture was very boring. In the afternoon, the participants of "Comenius” were splited into different groups and made the cover of a newspaper. We really enjoyed this activity. In the afternoon, all participants in the "Comenius" had dinner at "McDonald’s." It was a perfect dinner, we got to know everybody a lot better and we laughed with each other.
    Written by the Spanish team.
